PAY RATE: $22.00 SALARY - DOEHOURS: Full-Time

Tribal Historic Preservation Officer (THPO)

  1. Must submit all reports as required by law.
  2. Responsible for all phases of program development, implementation, budget preparations, budget monitoring and evaluation.
  3. Responsible for identifying alternate and additional resources for funding cultural resource management activities.
  4. Oversee all contractors engaged by the Tribe for activities in the area of historic preservation.
  5. Develops and directs all historic preservation and cultural resource management projects, activities and investigations.
  6. Directly participates in fieldwork for historic preservation projects as necessary.
  7. Participates in workshops and training sessions for the purpose of upgrading skills relevant to job duties.
  8. Develop and implement a comprehensive Reservation-wide historic preservation plan covering historic, archaeological and traditional cultural properties.
  9. Identify and nominate eligible properties to the National Register and otherwise administer applications for listing historic properties on the National Register.
  10. Maintains knowledge of all the Federal, State, and Tribal regulations relevant to historic preservation.
  11. Establishes and maintains relationships with the State and Federal governments pertaining to all aspects of historic preservation and cultural resource management.
  12. Consult with the appropriate Federal agencies in accordance with Section 106 of the Acton any Federal undertakings that may affect historic and culturally significant properties within the boundaries of the Reservation, and the content and sufficiency of any plans to protect, manage or reduce or mitigate harm to such properties.
  13. Cooperate with the Secretary, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, and other Federal agencies, State agencies, local governments and organizations and individuals to ensure that historic properties are taken into consideration at all levels of planning and development.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  1. High School Diploma or GED
  2. Minimum AA Degree in Archaeology/Anthropology or Native American Studies/Indigenous Studies or Historic Preservation/Architectural History or History.
  3. Must maintain a professional attitude and maintain CONFIDENTIALITY on all THPO matters.
  4. Must have computer skills, such as Microsoft Applications i.e. Word, Excell, PowerPoint, etc.
  5. Preferred experience with THPO, working 106 law and monitoring.
  6. Must possess a valid California driver's license.
  7. Must pass pre-employment drug screening and random drug testing thereafter.
  8. Must pass criminal background check, physical examination and TB test.
  9. Physical demands: must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 25 pounds.
