Camryn Mitchell and Perla Carmona, co-valedictorians of the Round Valley High School Class of 2026, have become the first recipients of the Ka Mees Tatk UC Law San Francisco Scholarship, a new scholarship established to help Round Valley graduates pursue higher education.

A Good Path Forward

In 2025, UC Law San Francisco established a $250,000 scholarship fund to support graduates of Round Valley High School in attaining their educational goals. Investment earnings from the fund are intended to assist with tuition, housing, books, and educational materials.

In the Yuki language, one of the confederated tribes of the Round Valley Indian Tribes, Ka mees tatk means "It is a good path."

Future Plans

Camryn Mitchell

Mitchell has accepted a scholarship to attend UC Berkeley, where she will major in Administrative Justice with a minor in Pre-Law.

During the June 11 Round Valley High School Senior Breakfast, Mitchell dedicated the honor to her late mother, Crystal Britton, and thanked her family for their continued love, encouragement, and support.

Perla Carmona

Carmona, who served as both Round Valley High School Student Body President and Class of 2026 President, will attend UC Davis to major in Political Science.

"Going to college is an exciting step for me, and I appreciate everyone who has helped me get to this point. The support I have received has given me opportunities that I will always be thankful for."

— Perla Carmona

Selection and Recognition

A Round Valley Unified School District committee reviewed scholarship applications and interviewed candidates in consultation with the Round Valley Indian Tribes. During the inaugural year, a total of $10,000 was awarded.

UC Law San Francisco Chief Financial Officer David Seward and former Board Chair Tom Gede attended the Senior Breakfast to celebrate the scholarship recipients and recognize their academic achievements.

Restorative Justice Partnership

The scholarship is part of UC Law San Francisco's restorative justice initiative that began in 2017 in recognition of historical harms committed against the Yuki people in the Round Valley and Eden Valley region.

UC Law San Francisco continues to collaborate with the Round Valley Indian Tribes Tribal Council and the Yuki Committee on initiatives that include pro bono legal services for California Native tribes, development of an Indigenous Law Center, and expanded educational opportunities for Native students.

"It is good to be here at this time to witness UC Law’s commitment to reconciliation and partnership with the people of Round Valley. I am happy to see the first year of the new scholarship, Ka mees tatk (It is a good path), supporting post-secondary pathways for two exemplary graduates of Round Valley’s schools. Our schools look forward to partnering with UC Law in other ways, as well, to support restorative justice and a bright future for Round Valley."
